Kumiko Shirai DACM, LAc

I grew up in Japan, but moved to the States at 14 years old with my parents to study English. Influenced by my mother, Taiji master Machiko Shirai, I learned to appreciate Asian medicine and martial arts from an early age. I studied Aikido for twenty five years and currently practice Taiji. I attended Oregon State University (OSU) where I majored in Chinese Studies and graduated with a Bachelor in Science. I then enrolled in the School of Classical Chinese Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, where I earned my Masters in Science of Oriental Medicine.
Beside acupuncture, I specialize in classical herbal medicine in which I received rigorous training in the Han-dynasty style of Chinese herbal prescriptions. I also specialize in Japanese abdominal diagnosis, also known as Fukushin.
I have a private practice in Portland, Oregon and teach Abdominal Diagnosis seminars privately. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Chinese Medicine at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, where I am also a part time faculty member.
