Stems and Branches, Ba Zi and personality profiles

One of our goals in Chinese Medicine is to treat people, not diseases. To do this, we need to know the rules of the universe and how these rules affect us as human beings.
Ancient Chinese philosophers and doctors discovered different cycles of time that can be divided in many ways. Sections of minutes, hours, days, months, years, 10 years, 12 years, 60 years and so on. So every moment is a combination of different parallel cycles, just like the moment of our birth. At the moment of birth we are under the influence of large and small movements that determine the potential energies on ourselves, on our environment, on our emotional and physical health, and on the tendency of how weak or strong we can be at different times and in different circumstances in our lives.
Understanding the constitutional energy of patients helps us to learn more about the origins of symptoms, pathologies and diseases and to treat them more effectively by preventing disharmonies, identifying conflicts and difficulties and understanding the basic potential of patients. At the same time, we can see the available energy of each element of the Five Phases, whether it is present or not. This leads to unique constitutional and personalised treatments according to the different cycles and rhythms. The individually tailored acupuncture treatments work better because specific points are chosen for their best effect.

The course objectives

In this year-long course we will return to the sources of classical Chinese medicine. To the "Nei Jing Su Wen" & "Ling Shu" and "Nan Jing". We will delve deeper into the basics of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (Tian Gan Di Zhi). Another focus in this course is on the Four Pillars of Destiny (Si Zhu), also known as Ba Zi (The Eight Characters), to understand the deeper levels of personality and Chinese metaphysics. The main theories in these methods are based on yin-yang, qi, five phases and six divisions and the interactions between them in the different cycles of time and between heaven, earth and man.
The unique course is based on the different seasons in the course of the year. Thus we can experience the seasonal changes of the individual elements and their qualities most authentically by feeling the changes in ourselves. We will start with the winter seminar and the connection to the water element, then continue with the spring seminar and the wood element, continue with summer and the elements fire and earth. We conclude with the metal in autumn. The course includes a total of three online sessions where the introductions to the basic theories and the conclusions are discussed.

During the course, the individual personality charts of all participants will be analysed according to personality and seasonal influences.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Chinese Medicine.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation from the Association for Classical Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (AGTCM).
