Course Description

This practical workshop will lead us from the most fundamental principles in Chinese Medicine about Jing-Shen and Pathogenic Factors to subtile aspects of the ‘Topography of Jing-Shen’. From feeling Qi-reactions in your own body to learning practical diagnostic and treatment tools, to help your patients in clinic.

What is ‘Topography of Jing-Shen’?

Imagine yourself in a train going home after a really great day at work. You have a comfortable seat with a great view. You feel joyful, happy and peaceful. Maybe you register the sensation of calmness in your head and plenty of space in your chest, which facilitates deep and relaxed breathing into your lower abdomen (Good longitudinal connection between Shen, Qi & Jing).

At the next station a person enters your compartment and finds an empty seat close to you. This is a person with whom you have had the worst conflict you can recall. Register the sensation! Where in your body do you register it? What ‘texture’ does the sensation have? How deep is it seated in your body? Does your reaction have a direction?

Maybe you get bodily reactions just from reading these sentences? Tension in your stomach? Unrest in your chest? Lump in your throat? These are just examples of sensations you can get, when Pathogenic Emotions transversely disturb and restrict your longitudinal extension of Jing-Shen (Shen, Qi & Jing). As long as we adjust appropriately, these body-emotional reactions only serve to define and develop our Jing-Shen, but if they linger in your body, they may lead to functional and – over time – physical changes.

‘Topography of Jing-Shen’ is a description of the the inner bodily ‘landscape’, which is formed by the ever-changing frontier-line between our core of longitudinal health-promoting Jing-Shen and transverse disturbance from Pathogenic Emotions.

What to take with you from the workshop:

  • Theory about bodily extension of Jing-Shen & how Jing-Shen becomes affected by Emotions
  • Introduction to a questionaire developed to illuminate the body manifestations constituting our emotions
  • Practical diagnostic training to identify precisely where emotions do what to Qi in the patient’s body – and yours! – Which imbalances and obvious points to select?
  • Training to sense and incorporate theory in your own organism
